This is a fairly ugly proof of concept that will be serve as a base for the future product.

This example uses MathJax (a javascript library) to render LaTeX for the equations. I would prefer to find a php implementation to do this server-side for the final version. As you may have noticed when loading the page, MathJax takes a moment to render the expressions, revealing the ugly LaTeX code beneath. A php version would render the LaTeX expressions as images. While this would take more server-side processing and bandwidth, it would ensure a uniform experience between platforms and on older browsers. Edit: Actually, that's a stupid reason because the HTML5 function plotter only works on modern browsers.

After messing with the original function plotter to try to change it from a full screen app, I realized we could just embed it with a frame or a frame with little modification (So far, I have just removed the example functions inside of it). The parent HTML page can call a function inside of the iframe page to plot the functions. This weak coupling allows us to switch out the graphing component in the future if a better one is found.

Future modifications to the 2D Function Plotter may include removing the interface.
