Installing Netbeans With C++ on MacOS

  • Download and install a version of NetBeans that includes C++ support: Netbeans downloads
    • Go to https://netbeans.org/
    • You need to download and install the version that includes C++ support.
    • Go to this Link and pick one of the two options below:
      1. Netbeans with C++ only (142 MB)
      2. Netbeans with C++ plus Java and more (263 MB) (Get this if you also what Java support)
  • Install xcode for Mac OS
    • Open Mac OS App Start
    • Search for and install Xcode 7
  • Install GNU compilers
    • Go to the High Performance Computing Site For Mac OS X, and download the latest gcc bininary (gcc-6.1-bin.tar.gz): HPC Site
    • Start a terminal on your Mac
    • Change to the downloads directory: "cd ~/Downloads"
    • Install the compilers: "sudo tar -xvf gcc-6.1-bin.tar.gz -C /" You will need to enter your password.
    • Check that the C++ compiler is installed by typing "c++ -v"
